The father-daughter dance is one of the most emotional moments of many weddings. I loved this father’s face during his dance. Full of love and pride for his girl. His arms around her in a protective embrace. Sweet.

Hillary and Randy drew their wedding inspiration from nature. They enjoy hiking and picking mushrooms so it was no surprise they chose a romantic wedding venue surrounded by tall oak trees. The 1909 is simply magical. It’s the perfect place for an outdoor wedding. I adored all of their wedding details. And the light, the beautiful light. But the best part was the bride’s laughter. She smiled the entire day. Love. Congratulations Hillary and Randy! P.S. For this blog post, I decided to give some of the photos a vintage treatment. What do you think?
 
In case you haven’t noticed, I adore weddings. From simple to extravagant, intimate commitments to big celebrations, rustic outdoors to chapels and cathedrals and city halls, bohemian chic to elegant black-tie affairs – I love them all. The most important part of every wedding is the marriage. There are many books written on what makes a marriage work. I know that it takes a committed couple, and it doesn’t matter how young or how old or how many years (or days) they’ve known each other. Diana and John grew up in California but met on a ship when serving for the US Navy. They were young and in love. They didn’t have the time or money for a big wedding, but they knew they wanted to get married. So they eloped to City Hall for a courthouse wedding. Ten years later, they are happily married and just as in love. I was very excited to photograph their church wedding at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Diana and John wanted to pay homage to their first wedding so we stopped for a quick portrait in front of Los Angeles City Hall. Congratulations on your 10-year anniversary!
Are you planning a wedding at City Hall? We would love to photograph your day! Here’s my Throwback Thursday. When I was an undergrad, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Krakow, Poland. One of my goals was to find a photojournalism internship. There were no formal internships but I kept writing letters and knocking on doors. Finally, Adam Golec, a photo editor at Gazeta Wyborcza, took pity on me. He sent me out on a few assignments. He also gave me film for my camera and ideas on which parts of town I should explore photographically. For that I am eternally grateful. During one of those days, I found a tattoo parlor down a dark corridor away from the main road. The tattoo artist was super nice and allowed me to photograph inside his shop. I ended up with one of my favorite images from the entire trip. The negative remained in the newspaper archives but I did make a print for my portfolio in the newspaper darkroom. Michael and I live for adventure. I’d like to share some of our travels with you on the blog. Last year we went back to his hometown Cheyenne during Frontier Days. I loved all of the chuckwagons and was very excited when Ned invited me inside the camp to take some photos. Everything on the wagons is authentic. My rustic-loving heart was in heaven. I went a little crazy taking photos of all the details. We visited on cookoff day and each chuckwagon was serving samples to all the visitors. We tried four different chilis, biscuits, monkey bread and of course coffee. The chuckwagon champion was the Curly Cue Camp from Las Vegas. Thank you to all the chuckwagons for their hospitality. If you’re planning a rustic wedding, did you know that some chuckwagons offer catering? Now that’s good news for all you cowgirls at heart.
