For this week’s Encore! I’d like to share a behind the scenes photo from Ina and Matthias’s The Day After photo session in Venice Beach.
In the words of George Eastman:
Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography.
Michael and I primarily use the sun as a main light source. We prefer to work in shade because the light is softer. Sometimes we incorporate off camera flash or reflectors. We decided to block the harsh sun for this photo. I loved all the onlookers, especially the lady in the window.
Thank you again to the lovely Ina and Matthias, as well as The House of Ink who graciously let us use the couch in front of their tattoo shop.

I usually forgot to take them or am too busy, especially on a wedding day. I’m happy I stopped to take this one.
Awesome! I love that you showed that. It’s funny, because when I saw the photos in the original blog, I knew something had been done! haha. Great shot!
It was right before sunset so the light was very directional and harsh. It was great to be able to get two looks from the same location. If you look at the photos of the Starry Night mural, although the couple was mostly in shade, the photo on the left was just available light and the photo on the right was using the gold side of a reflector (which also warmed the photo up a bit).
